Welcome to the XL Academy online homepage.
The XL Academy is a residential Christian Gap Year Programme based at Church @ The Foundry - Widnes - UK. If you are aged 18 - 25 years old and want to give 1 year of your life to God and His church whilst getting some excellent input from cutting edge leaders and ministries, then maybe the XL Christian Gap Year is for you. Applications are now being taken for September 2012 with limited spaces available. The Foundry is linked to AOG UK church networks and part of the Evangelical Alliance.
The dates for 2012 are Sept 22nd 2012 to July 14th 2013 with an extension week at SYC in August 2013.

XL Academy House
Programme
The XL Academy is a full time 1 year residential course. It consists of both practical ministry as well as an element of bible learning that takes place whilst on the Academy.
Weekday's you will be expected to be present in lectures as well as midweek ministries such as school's work, outreach, and evening ministries. Saturdays are yours to enjoy as a free day but occasionally you may be asked to do ministry on a Saturday, before a very busy and exciting Sunday.

*The trip to Israel is at an extra cost and cannot be guaranteed until the start of The XL Academy year. If you want to go on this extra trip we recommend you budget about £600 for the whole trip.
The XL Academy is primarily a ministry driven christian gap year. You will have the opportunity of working alongside and in teams that deliver successful ministry in a variety of departments. However there is an academic side to the Academy where you will be asked to study and produce assessment style tasks frequently. Don't worry; we know that a lot of your time will be taken up in ministry, so we aim to keep these tasks simple and straightforward.
Assignments
For each of your theory modules that you will study you will be set an assignment to complete. This may be a reflective written piece of work or a practical coursework element. They usually have a word limit of 500 - 700 words to them. As you can see we are not asking you to write lots, but to simply test your knowledge and understanding of each module.
Every 6 weeks we will also set you a book review (2 a term), where we will ask you to read a current Christian book based on a module of study and review the book. We want a 300 - 500 word review also for this. You will have time factored into your week to allow you to do this independant study work.
Graduation
At the end of the XL Academy we will graduate you with a certificate in Christian Ministry (CM) from Church @ The Foundry. We will also hold a formal graduation ceremony where you can invite parents and friends to come along and see your year in pictures and videos. If you're an international student we can stream this via a web connection.
